Tour Overview

Rongai route 6 days itinerary is the best, this route is termed to be the second easiest route for climbing Kilimanjaro after Marangu. Trekking via this route one can choose between the two starting points, Tanzania side or Kenya side. Rongai route is the only route approaches the summit of Kilimanjaro Africa from the north east & has wonderful wilderness setting. Upon request short days Tanzania safari can be added after the climb, please let us know your wishes

Itinerary

Day 1 – Nalemuru gate – Simba camp

After arriving at the gate you do registration and meet the whole trekking team who will accompany you throughout the mountain. Today you will start at an altitude of 2000 metres where you walk for about 6 km for 3 hours. You will enjoy passing through pine vegetation as well as lush forest where colobus monkeys can be seen. Later in the evening you will reach at Simba camp where you will have dinner and overnight.

Day 2 – Simba camp – Kikelelwa camp

You will take breakfast in the morning there after have a walk of about 16 km of which you will spend around 7 hours. This pass is close to Kenya boarder if there is good weather you can see the part of Kenya. You will reach at Kikelelwa camp in the late afternoon where you dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Kikelelwa camp – Mawenzi camp

Today you will cover a short distance, after breakfast you will have a walk of about 3 km of which you will spend around 4 hours. During this walk you will start leaving the vegetations and during the afternoon when you at the camp you can easily view the shining Kibo which is very magnificent. You will have all the meals and overnight at Mawenzi camp.

Day 4 – Mawenzi camp – Kibo camp

After breakfast depart to Kibo camp, you will have to spend around 5 hours walking. There are no much vegetations in this area your aim will be to reach at Kibo camp for early bedtime for the preparations of night walk to the summit. You will reach at Kibo camp at around 15.00 and you will have an early bedtime and make yourselves ready for the summit day.

Day 5 – Kibo camp – Summit – Horombo camp

You will notice that today we have task to cover actually the toughest day ever, but it is mentally made easier by knowing it is the day you will be at the highest point of Africa the summit day. You will wake up and begin the walk at the midnight your aim is to reach at the summit in the morning around 7.00. During the climbing time you will have several reference points; William’s Point (5131 metres), Hans Meyer Cave (5258 metres) and then Gillman’s Point (5719 metres. Reaching at the top is wonderful and therefore you will have time to congratulate yourselves, celebrate and take some photos. After all those on the top descend back Kibo and then Horombo camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 – Horombo camp – Marangu gate

After breakfast you descend down for about 20 km walk we will reach at Marangu gate in the evening around 16.00 where you will be presented with you certificate of climbing to the highest point of Africa then the transport will be waiting for you at the gate to take you to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
